VIRGINMARY HOUSE
Meryem Ana Evi (House of the Virgin Mary) is located on Mount Bülbül, 9 kilometers away from Selçuk. It is known that St. John brought the Virgin Mary to Ephesus 4 or 6 years after the death of Jesus. In 1891, Lazarist priests discovered that this was the place where the Virgin Mary spent her last days, based on a dream of the German nun A. Katherina Emmerich. This discovery was a significant event in the Christian world and shed light on the religious community. The structure, which is in the shape of a cross and has a dome, has since been restored. The house, which is also considered sacred by Muslims, holds ceremonies every year on August 15th, after Pope VI Paul's visit in 1967, and these ceremonies attract great interest.
